Omnipotence Defined

  • God is omnipotent, or all-powerful. The Latin-based term omnipotence combines two words: omni, meaning all, and potens, meaning powerful. In other words, God can do all of His holy will.
  • Psalm 115:1-3 - "Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to your name give glory, for the sake of your steadfast love and your faithfulness! Why should the nations say, 'Where is their God?' Our God is in the heavens; he does all that he pleases."

 

Omnipotence Displayed

  • God’s Power is Unlimited  (Isaiah 43:13; Jeremiah 32:17, 27; Matthew 19:26)
  • God’s Power is Unconquerable (Job 42:2; Isaiah 46:10-11)
  • God’s Power is Undiminished (Psalm 102:25-27; Isaiah 40:9-26)
  • God’s Power is Unfathomable (Psalm 145:1-7; Ephesians 3:20-21)

 

Omnipotence Applied

  • God’s strength is made perfect in our weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9-10; Philippians 4:13)
  • God holds our times in His hand (Psalm 31:14-15; Ecclesiastes 3:10-11)
  • God’s redemptive plan will be accomplished (Ephesians 1:3-14)
