Text:  Mark 12:18-27

 

Ignorance Personified in the Sadducees (Mark 12:18)    

• The Sadducees did not believe in the resurrection.
• The Sadducees' authority was sourced in Moses and the Pentateuch.

Ignorance Portrayed by the Sadducees (Mark 12:19-23)

• The Sadducees’ absurd question about Levirite marriage in heaven came out of a heart of unbelief and deception.
• This scenario is played out vividly in the book of Ruth with Boaz and Ruth.

Truth Declared in the Scriptures (Mark 12:24-27)

• Jesus points us to a true understanding of God and the Scriptures.
• Jesus displays marriage as both meaningful and momentary.
• Earthly marriage displays the Gospel and is a foreshadowing of our union with Christ in heaven forever.
• Jesus declares that God never ceases to be God – He is the God of life!
