The Boy’s Dreadful Predicament (9:14-18)

• The crowd’s argument over the boy’s condition
• The apparent hopelessness of the boy’s condition
• The vain attempts of the disciples to heal the boy’s condition

The Messiah’s Decisive Response (9:19-20)

• The disciples are rebuked for their faithlessness
• Jesus receives the boy with compassion
• The demon revolts at the presence of Jesus 

 

The Father’s Desperate Plea (9:21-24)

• The father cries out for Jesus to heal his son and strengthen his faith
• We are called to look to Jesus’ ability and sufficiency amid our inability and insufficiency.

 

The Messiah’s Display of Faith-Building Power (9:23-29)

• Jesus rebukes the demon and resurrects the boy
• Jesus calls His disciples to a life of dependence upon God through prayer
• Jesus proves that He is the author and finisher of our faith
